Ephesians Ch 6 Vs 1-9 is another contentious part of scripture, where after St Paul tells children to obey their parents, and for parents to not irritate their children, he tells slaves to obey their masters. To be fair he also asks masters not to ill treat slaves, but that does not nullify the fact that slavery is a repugnant practice and many used this scripture to justify that practice. But one needs to look at the time and period St Paul lived in, his main concern was to spread the Gospel, and he did state that slaves should obtain their freedom where they can in another part of scripture (1 Corinthians 7:21)
Wherever we see injustice we must fight that injustice, but we should see those we oppose and fight as people capable of change. Some people are capable of change of character and we must work at changing hearts and minds where we can, while sticking to our integrity and sense of right and wrong.
