JOE JONAS: PAPER MAG COVER GUY

Joe Jonas is one of three artists to cover Paper Mag’s music issue, which is in stores on Wednesday.

In the issue, the middle Jonas Brother opened up about his upcoming album Fastlife. Joe originally started working on a Michael Bublé style album but something was still missing. “I don’t mean to name-drop,” he says, “but about a year-and-a-half ago I met Bono, and he told me to write music that was really honest, to not be afraid to go there.” So with that advice, Joe went back to the writing pad to open up more in his lyrics.

Paper Mag also spoke to Nate “Danja” Hills, who has produced for Britney Spears and produced Joe’s album. “I was surprised he reached out to me. There’s such a gap between what I do and what the Jonas Brothers are. But that’s the excitement — it left us an opportunity to create something new.” Danja isn’t afraid of scaring off JoBros fans with this more adult approach. “They’ve all grown up with Joe, so they’ll be able to understand where he’s coming from,” he says. “And, really, he’s a star no matter what he does. If I give him something people can move to on top of his natural charisma, that’s like dynamite and gasoline.”

And who is one of Joe’s inspirations? Justin Timberlake of course. “He’s absolutely an inspiration,”Joe said. “I look up to Justin so much. He pretty much created his own lane.”

We can’t wait to hear the rest of Joe’s album, due out in September. To read the rest of Joe’s Paper Mag interview, go here.
