Well the edgy, fierce promo pictures, the catchy pop hit and the excessive amount of buzz has finally led to this moment. Former Disney princess Demi Lovato has unleashed her highly anticipated music video for hit single "Heart Attack" to the public. Let the jaw-dropping and eye-widening begin.
Let me first say that given the amount of press, the official video was not as spectacular or amazing as I would have liked it to be. Some scenes were rather boring and I was looking for somewhat of a storyline. The song seems to be telling a heartbreaking tale, the video does not. With that said, the close up shots of the beautiful artist are absolutely stunning, Lovato is giving some Kelly Clarkson "Since U Been Gone" realness, staring deep into the camera, and the black oil just adds to the appeal.
The intro shows Lovato giving a stare that would make the girl on RuPaul's Drag Race shiver in their heels. She comes up from a pool of black liquid and sings the first verse in front of a white screen with slicked back hair and dirty palms. The Clarkson comparisons are noticeable once the insanely catchy chorus kicks in. Accompanied by a microphone and a supporting band, Lovato rocks the lyrics in a leather jacket and heavy, dark eye shadow. Can we please focus on the amount of cleavage the singer is rocking? No Disney girl present here. The rest of the video highlights the artist's facial expressions and hand movements as she gets down to the emotions behind the track.
All in all, the music video for "Heart Attack" is a good watch, it is a crucial step in the evolution of Demi and her pop music takeover. Was it one of the best videos ever created? No. Was I left wishing more would have been done? Of course. However, I sort of enjoy the simplistic nature of the finished product and how the artist's performance took center stage over gimmicks and poor acting. I have seen the new video ten times already.
